Outlining the steps we need to take to meet our Net Zero targets by 2050

Greenhouse gases are driving an increase in global temperatures of about a quarter of a degree per decade, taking us ever closer to the two degree threshold for global warming that was set as part of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Professor Myles Allen sets out some of the behavioural and technological changes required to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from approximately 40 billion tonnes per year down to Net Zero - in order to avoid a global environmental collapse. From direct air and point source carbon capture through to incentivising industry and alternative fuels and nature-based solutions, he outlines a combination of short and long-term approaches which may help us avert disaster - if we act now.

Myles Allen is Professor of Systems Science in the School of Geography and Environment and the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford, and Director of Oxford Net Zero.
