Retrofitting trains, buses and trucks to run on hydrogen fuel cells

As the simplest and most abundant element in the universe, hydrogen has long been considered the future of fuel, particularly as a low-carbon solution for the heavy goods transport sector.

Arcola Energy is a leading specialist in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. At their workshop in Bo’ness they are retrofitting diesel trains to run on hydrogen, reducing the financial impact and wastage of building new trains at the same time as decarbonising the rail industry. Meanwhile at their Enfield site, they are converting fleets of buses and refuse-vehicles to run on hydrogen power.
