Founder and Former CEO, CarbonCure Technologies

"Our main competition is the status quo"

At COP28, Rob Niven, founder and former CEO of CarbonCure Technologies, highlights a transformative vision for the concrete industry, underscoring the crucial role of carbon removal technologies.

CarbonCure captures CO2, transforming it into concrete, thus turning a major greenhouse gas emitter into a sustainable building material. Niven emphasises the need for innovation beyond traditional methods to meet global climate targets, pointing out that concrete accounts for a significant 8% of global GHG emissions. COP28 serves as a pivotal platform, convening global stakeholders to drive policy and market shifts. As the top consumer of concrete, governments are urged to use their influence to demand low-carbon concrete.

Niven also stresses the importance of high-integrity carbon markets, which are essential for scaling new technologies. Niven's optimism stems from a palpable shift at COP28 towards actionable solutions, reflecting a global commitment to combat climate change effectively.
