Training young people in rural South Africa to produce food for themselves
Umgibe Farming Organics helps grassroots farmers in South Africa to grow and market organic vegetables. Its founder Nonnhlanhla Joye began farming to provide for her family after being diagnosed with cancer, and soon realised that her successful approach to small-scale farming could be replicated by other members of her community. Now Umgibe provides training and support to hundreds of families in South Africa, who are able to feed themselves and sell their surplus produce.
