WRI Land Accelerator

The World Resources Institute's projects restore degraded land around the world, helping local people to address the impact of climate change.

More than 75 percent of Earth's land areas have been substantially degraded, undermining the well-being of almost half the world's population. The World Resources Institute runs projects aimed at restoring this degraded land, working with local people to address the impact of climate change on farms, forests, and pasture.

WRI’s Land Accelerator is a business network which helps entrepreneurs in Africa, Latin America and Asia to restore degraded forests and farmland by connecting them to mentors and investors. In Latin America and the Caribbean, WRI’s Initiative 20x20 is aiming to protect and restore more than 50 million hectares of land across the region. In Nicaragua, they are working with small-scale coffee producers to rehabilitate 2,000 hectares of degraded land. In Rwanda, WRI helped fund ARCOS's work with agricultural communities, improving crop yields, increasing food security and contributing to Africa’s commitment to reforest 100 million hectares of land by 2030.
