Nature Positive Buildings
Buildings are the foundation of modern life. They provide us with safety and shelter, but this comes at an environmental cost – the Buildings and Construction Sector is responsible for 37% of global emissions. While the scale of this problem is staggering, it also presents a clear opportunity for us to decarbonise the built environment.
Net Zero may not be enough; in fact, it may have become a loaded term. Instead, we can strive for Nature Positive buildings that enhance the ecosystems they depend on.
What will it take to construct a sustainable future? We have the insight and technology to achieve our goals, the challenge is to measure and finance an accelerated transition.
David Cheshire
Much is already being done to decarbonise the built environment sector, but what if we could take it one step further and make buildings climate positive?
David Cheshire from AECOM works to create regenerative buildings that store carbon, generate more energy than they use, and provide valuable ecosystem services to the community. Watch the full extended interview to learn more about redesigning our concrete jungles.
