Revitalising Cities

Colombia's second-largest city, Medellín, was best known internationally for the local drug cartel that took its name, and left a legacy of high crime and violence. After a successful programme of urban regeneration, the city now faces two new threats to its environment caused by rapid economic growth; high pollution and rising temperatures. Medellín is using Nature Based Solutions to address this challenge, planting thousands of trees and shrubs along major roads and waterways to create a series of green corridors through the city which absorb emissions and cool the city’s hotspots.
